I bought this Panasonic HD Plasma in August from REX TV,Having DirecTV, I had to buy a New TIVO system, HD, which I got from Ebay, $299. 00, saved $400. 00 over getting one from DirecTV,Plus purchasing over ebay, I recievce a $100. 00, Rebate from DirecTV,for a 2 year committed to the HD package, and 3 month free of HD, which is $10. 99 extra per month. The TV was fantastic, Simple to hook up, only wishing that it had 2- HDMI jacks. My Bigest issue was with DirecTV,I have the “Sunday Ticket” I found out that to get HD football, I now have to be come a “Superfan” for $99. 00 more,to get the games in HD??? Then I only recieved them about 2-week then, something when incorrect with DirecTV, they credited me $49. 00 tolds next year, and I got no HD Football on the “Sunday Ticket”Then the SIX week battle with DirecTV,I had the networks, ABC, NBC, CBS,FOX. . . but not in HD. . . I made many phone calls, wavier were sent to the networks,Finally I was able to get all of then in HD but NBC. . . . Having FOX in HD. . Football is unreal, Like being there, the colors are so real. Terry’s head does shine This TV is truely a 5 star TV, I would never go back, just mabye to cable? I still don’t know why we HD-TV owners have to pay extra for the HD signal. I now looking to a Wireless Home Theather to match this fantastic TV, again only wishing that were was another HMDI jack for it.

Very disappointing-at least for viewing widescreen DVD’s. After hours attempting to set up this television (TH-50PX50U) in every conceivable permutation of expensive cables with a new Sony HDMI DVD player (as well as to two older models that were not HDMI capable, a Sony & a Panasonic), I’ve concluded that to view widescreen DVD’s there are two unsatisfactory options. If I use a “component” hookup (three video cables), I may view a widescreen DVD in either the “full screen aspect” where the image is illogically stretched to fill the Panasonic’s wide screen and the people in the film appear stout-faced, or I may view the DVD in a “zoom aspect” where the image is cropped and people have a part of their head cut off. If, on the other hand, I use a HDMI hookup (one cable), I am given only the full-screen, stout-faced option. There is absolutely no way that I’ve found to view a widescreen 16:9 format DVD in a right 16:9 format on this 16:9 aspect high definition TV-as counterintuitive as that may sound.

I guess I’m considered the ideal source for info on the high end TV’s. I own three of the top models from Consumers and Cnet. I have the Sony XBR960 Tube HDTV which is supposedly the best but it’s a 34″ Tube tv, I just went and bought the Panasonic TH-42PX42U and now I just got the TH-50PX50U. These things are in extremely small supply. We loved our Panasonic 42″ so much I finished up having to pay retail on the 50″ (3999) just to get it. I’m pretty sure Panasonic is either coming out with a new model soon or they’re just oversold. My TV says it was made in Jan 2006 on the back and it’s mid Feb right now so maybe they’re just not keeping up.
Like I said, I own the Sony XBR960 which is Cnet’s best TV. The one thing I don’t reckon people realize is that on that TV the HD is absolutely perfect, awe inspiring type stuff. Problem is, it’s a freaking 34″ screen. It’s kind of like concentrated TV, of course it’s going to look excellent. Problem with that is the Sony’s regular TV looks terrible, pretty much makes you leave it on those weird INHD stations all day.
On to the Panasonic 50″. The best thing about plasmas are the bright screen and the fact that all grades of TV look really really excellent. That’s the huge difference I notice. My wife is amazed by it. It’s hard to describe what I mean by “bright”, maybe powerful is a better word for the picture. HD looks better than standard, but what’s fantastic is all tv looks really fantastic.
I really have both my 42″ and 50″ Panasonics on table tops and don’t wall mount them, I like them that much that I was willing to pay more just to get plasma. (I also know I go a lot and you can do a lot more with a plasma in the future. I’d despise to get stuck with a monster LCD projection and nowhere to place it).
Hope this helps. Hope you can find one. I bought both these TV’s blind, just going off Cnet and Consumer reports and other folks recommendations. They’re awesome.

Let me start this review by stating that I bought/own the TH-50PM50U NOT the TH-50PX50U for sale here. The only real difference between my 50″ and this one on Amazon is that it DOES not have the internal tuner, and oh yeah, it costs about $700 less.
At first I was concerned that it would lack features. . . . but in fact, it lacks NOTHING if you have a digital cable box/sat box. That is all you need to watch. I bought it at Costco for $3200, and will never regret it!
Know that MY 50″ does not have a cable catv connection in the back, so it needs to be component/hdmi input. . . . which I don’t mind as I doubt I will not have an HDTV box to go along with my tv. Plus this version does not seem to have the “aspect” lockout problem that seems to plague this version!
Anyway. . . I originally owned the samsung 5067 dlp. . . . . . . really disappointed with it. . . from horrible viewing angle, noise, and FINGERPRINTS INSIDE THE SCREEN!!!!!!! I returned it straight away, bought the plasma, and could not be more pleased!
Don’t hesistate on this fantastic TV! But if you want to save money, and dont need the integrated tuner, buy it at costco!!!
