21 Dec 09 How do I change flat panel monitor settings?

I have a dell flat panel monitor and want to connect it to a dell projector. When I do, the screen on the monitor goes black. The projector works fine and I can see what is being showed on the “black” monitor. How can I get them both to work so I can see what is on the monitor as well as the projector?
